This past week was filled with shocks and this is what makes
football the sport in the world. Let PLAYS OF THE WEEK show you its rights and wrongs.
FLOP OF THE WEEK: Manchester United (English Premier
League).
Am sure you all would have been rooting for Chelsea to win
this week’s flop but losing seems to be a part of them now so they were not
considered, so Manchester United took the reign. Red Devils have been limited
in goal getting all season that they can boast of only 21 goals in the premier
league this term so far. Yes defensively they’re sound but are very shy in
front of goal after spending more than 50 million on forwards last summer. They
totally need uplift in the striking department; funny thing is that most of the
players they let go are enjoying their time at their new club. For Instance
Chicharito (Javier Henandez), who has notched 13 goals in 18 appearances for
Bayer Leverkusen this season. Manchester United had only one shot on target against
West-Ham over the weekend that needs to change. Is the Philosophy working at
all?
GOAL OF THE WEEK: Dani Alves (Barcelona).
Barcelona got through to the round of 16 in the COPA DEL REY by thrashing Villanovense 6-1 after they they drew 0-0 in the first leg. Barca scored six brilliant goals but the peak of the bunch has to be Dani Alves 30 yard strike. Incase you have not seen it enjoy below.
SAVE OF THE WEEK: Petr Cech (Arsenal).
He has kept his light glowing for Arsenal since his move from Chelsea, and he has always delivered when needed. Cech made series of saves for Arsenal in their 3-1 win over Sunderland this past week.
Sunderland's Yann Mvila whipped in a corner-kick to the near post and it met the head of Tiovonen who flicked the ball with his head to the far post were Steven Fletcher crept in to hit the ball but Cech was positioned properly to save and help gain his team all 3 points.
MATCH OF THE WEEK: Borussia Moenchengladbach V Bayern Munich
Every football expect would have predicted a Bayern win but the inevitable did not happen this time.
First-half finished drab as both teams cancelled themselves out with chances being created at both ends.
Second-half, this was when the odds were proved wrong Gladbach full-back Wendt scored the opener in the 54th minute. With their resolute defense Gladbach went on to score the second of the game as Stindl scored in the 66th minute. Two minutes later eyebrows were raised when Fabian Johnson scored a third goal for Gladbach. It was looking like the home team will keep a clean sheet but Frank Ribery cancelled that as he made it 3-1 in the 81st minute. Gladbach held on for the rest of the half as they went on the carry all three points.
MANAGER OF THE WEEK: Eddie Howe (Bournemouth).
It's been a merry-go-round season for Bournemouth and with limited resources plus injuries Eddie Howe has managed the team properly as they look to beat the drop. He made a little twitch to his team as they had numbers behind the ball but they still kept on attacking playing free-flowing football and when they got their chance they took as they went on to beat Chelsea 1-0 at the bridge. Vital three points for the cherries and a big kudos to Eddie and the boys.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Borrusia Moenchegladbach (Bundesliga).
They are the first team to beat Bayern this season in the Bundesliga and only the second to beat the Bavarians all season. What an achievement, they beat the German Champions 3-1 in their Bundesliga fixture over the weekend.
COMBINED TEAM OF THE WEEK: 4-4-2
GK: Artur Boruc (Bournemouth).
The cherries goalie did not get anything wrong as he helped Bournemouth get all 3 points at the bridge in their 1-0 win over Chelsea this past week. If he was in your FPL congratulations.
LB: Oscar Wendt (Borrusia Moenchengladbach).
The left-full back was a force to reckon with on the day as he helped his team thrash Bayern Munich 3-1 in their Bundesliga fixture. He scored the first goal in that game.
CB: Simon Francis (Bournemouth)
The stand in captain was brilliant on the night for his team as he helped limit attacks from Chelsea by defending and blocking whatever came to him.
CB: Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid).
The cult hero center-halve has been brilliant as usual for his club. He scored one of the goals as Atletico went on to beat Granada in their La Liga fixture over the weekend.
RB: Dani Alves (Barcelona).
The Brazilian full-back was on form for Barcelona this past week as he scored a smasher against Villanovense in their 6-1 Copa Del Rey win and was on sung for Barcelona in their 1-1 draw in the La Liga against Valencia
CM: Fabian Johnson (Borrusia Moenchengladbach).
The USA International was on form for Gladbach as he scored one of three that saw his team beat Bayern Munich 3-1 in their Bundesliga fixture.
LW; Marko Arnautovic (Stoke City).
The Austrian forward scored a brace as Stoke City beat title contenders Manchester City 2-0 in their Premier League fixture over the weekend.
RW: Sandro (Barcelona).
Hat-trick for his team as Barcelona went on to thrash Villanovense 6-1 in their Copa Del Rey fixture.
AM: Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City).
The Algerian International scored a hat-trick to help the foxes thrash Swansea City 3-0 in their Premier League fixture over the weekend. The Leicester forward now has 10 premier league goals compared to the 4 he fetched last season.
ST: Divork Origi (Liverpool).
Scored a perfect hat-trick as he helped Liverpool get into the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup by thrashing Southampton 6-1 on the night.
ST: Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool).
It was his first start since October and he scored a brace in Liverpool's 6-1 win over Southampton in the Capital One Cup.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City).
Forget Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez has been a total revelation for his team and the Premier League. He scored only 4 goals last term and now he has 10 sharing joint second with Everton's Romelu Lukaku. Mahrez scored a hat-trick this weekend which saw Leicester thrash Swansea 3-0 and make his team top of the table. He has grown in confidence and his skill is always sublime. He will surely be a candidate for Player Of The Year and if this performance continues we will surely see him in a bigger club soon.
Fun Fact: Leicester paid Le Harve 500,000euros to purchase this lad. #BARGAIN
