Plays Of The Week

The Champions League group stage is over and group winners and runner ups know who they'll face in the round of 16. Plus league football has always come with a shock this season and this week was not left out. Here's this week's Plays of the week. Enjoy....

FLOP OF THE WEEK: Manchester United (English Premier League).
The red devils had a torrid week as they lost to Wolfsburg which saw them qualify for the round of 32 in the Europa league and just to wrap it up they lost to a spirited Bournemouth side in their Premier League fixture over the weekend. Manchester United looked lacklustre all week, It looked like they could not do anything right. Van Gaal definitely has work to do.

GOAL OF THE WEEK: Junior Stanislas (Bournemouth).
The former West-Ham junior has been on form in recent weeks, racking up goals and assists and he showed his quality with this goal. It's simple he scored straight out from a corner-kick leaving Manchester United goal-keeper David De Gea shocked on how that went in.

SAVE OF THE WEEK: Heurelho Gomes  (Watford).

The Brazilian goalkeeper has been one of Watford's top players all season and this race shows us why. Jermaine Defoe got the ball at the by-line then cut inside beating two watford defenders in the process then hit a reverse shot but Gomes was sharp to put his hands out and push the ball out for a corner.

MATCH OF THE WEEK: Wolfsburg V Manchester United (Champions League).

A crucial game between both teams as they both seek to qualify for the round of 16 in the Champions League.

A match were nothing could be held back Anthony Martial scored his first goal in over 2 months as Manchester United to the lead in the first 10 minutes. Well their lead did not last long as Naldo got an equaliser for Wolfsburg 3 minutes later. The game was basically end to end with no holds barred and fortune fell on Vieirinha to score a second for Wolfsburg on the night. First-half finished 2-1.

Much of the second-half was laboured as as Wolfsburg were holding their own trying to get through the game but Manchester United forced an equaliser as french midfielder Guilavogui scored an own goal to make it 2-2. There was more drama as it did not take long  for Wolfsburg to regain the lead and it was Naldo again two minutes after Manchester United equalised. The game finished this way and we have to say what a had fought victory for the men from Germany.

COACH OF THE WEEK: Eddie Howe (Bournemouth).

This man is what you call brave. After all the unwanted comments about changing the way his team plays, Mr Howe still stuck by his guns and right now he is shooting his doubters. Just after beating Chelsea last week, the david and goliath story had not finished as Bournemouth  welcomed title contenders Manchester United. Eddie played his routine 4-3-3 formation and attacked his way to a 2-1 win over the red devils. What a week it has been for the club and especially for the young manager Eddie Howe.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: KAA GENT (Belgian Super League).

Against all odds the Belgian side became the first team to qualify  for the round of 16 since Anderlecht in 1999 after beating group winners Zenit 2-1 in their Champions League group game. What an achievement for them and they can go on to the quarterfinals as they've got a decent tie against  Wolfsburg. Good luck

COMBINED TEAM OF THE WEEK: 3-5-2

GK:  Petr Cech (Arsenal).

He really didn't have much to do, his main feat was equalling the Premier League clean sheet record which is held was held by David James. The Arsenal goalie now has 169 clean sheets. Congrats Petr.

CB; Naldo (Wolfsburg)

We could say he basically knocked Manchester United out of the Champions League after he scored 2 goals in their 3-2 win over the red devils. We normally hail defenders for their tackles and interceptions but if you score a brace you are definitely going to get into the combined team of the week.

CB: Kurt Zouma (Chelsea).

The young frenchman was the best player on the pitch when Chelsea beat Porto 2-0 to qualify top of the their Champions League group. His pace and agility nullified Porto attacks, making us see the Chelsea of old. The victory got them a round of 16 tie with PSG, Repeat

CB: Mateo Musacchio (Villarreal).

He helped his team to a victory against all mighty Real-Madrid. Madrid only had a shot on target, it's because of this lad.

LW: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid).

The world's best footballer scored a double brace as Real Madrid capped off qualifying for the Champions League round of 16 by thrashing Malmo 8-0 on the night. The victory saw them top the table in their group and get a tricky tie against AS Roma.

CM: Harry Arter (Bournemouth).

A total replica of his manager, he even beat his manager's bravery. Harry Arter lost his new born daughter earlier last week just before the game against Manchester United and chose to play in this game. His stuck to his task and did his job on the night helping his team to a 2-1 win over the red devil's . We use this medium to send our condolences to Harry and his partner. Honest man.

CM: Philipp Lahm (Bayern Munich).

A class player anytime anyday. He scored one of the two goals in Bayern's win over Ingolstadt in their Bundesliga fixture over the weekend to make them remain on top of the table in Germany. The funny thing here is his coach Guardiola gave him a note when he went to take a throwing and in the note Guardiola said "Go on and score a goal" and Lahm obeyed.

RW: Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City).

Fresh off his hat-trick last week, the little Algerian got an assist and scored a goal as Leicester beat Champions Chelsea. This result sees Leicester top of the table and Chelsea 16th, a point ahead of the relegation zone.

AM: Erik Lamela (Tottenham).

This lad seems to like the Europa League. Remember last year he scored with a rabona, well this time he took the headlines by scoring a first-half hat-trick against AS Monaco, helping them to a 4-1 win which saw them top the group and get a round of 32 tie against Fiorentina.

ST; Olivier Giroud (Arsenal).

The french striker probably had his best week as an Arsenal player. Scored his first hat-trick for the club as they beat Olympiakos 3-0 which saw them qualify for the Champions League round of 16, then scored his 50th premier league goal as Arsenal beat Aston-Villa 2-0 in their Premier League fixture.

ST: Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez (Bayer Leverkusen).

The little mexican scored in his team's 1-1 draw against Barcelona in their Champions League and wrapped of the weekend with a brilliant hat-trick against Moenchengladbach. Leverkusen won the game 5-0.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez (Bayer Leverkusen).

After getting limited time at Manchester United and Real Madrid, the little mexican has found life easy at Leverkusen as he is scoring goals for fun. He scored a hat-trick in Leverkusen's 5-0 thrashing of Moenchengladbach last weekend. Chicharito has scored 17 goals in 20 appearances for the German club and he is looking like he will fight for top scorer this season. The funny thing is that he has scored more goals than all the Manchester United attackers combined. United are definitely missing him.
