ROYAL CHARGE: MANCHESTER CITY FOR THE TITLE?
The title of this column is simply a question with a good logic, rather than a declaration or worse an early coronation of Manchester City as the future Kings of English football come May 15th 2016. Manchester City on paper currently have the strongest squad, they also nine points from three games with victories against Chelsea (H) Westbrom (A) and Everton(A), all difficult matches, all completed with relative ease. Man city is building confidence for what may turn out to be a one sided league like the last season. Fortunately the title of this column is not based on the current city form but a ridiculous phenomenon. The blessings of the opening EPL weekend Monday night kick off. What am I talking about? You wonder, let me explain myself.
The start of every premier league season is eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide, every supporter is anxious to see his or her team kick off the EPL seasons on the first Saturday of the week. for fans of big teams, starting off on Saturday or Sunday means your team will not win the league when you judge the trends of the last five seasons. In each of the last five seasons, one of the two teams to kick off its EPL season on a Monday night has ended up as champion at the end of the season. The trend began with Manchester United in the 2010/ 2011 season, Chelsea were the defending champions that season and began the campaign with a Saturday evening kickoff dismantling of West Bromwich Albion led by a certain Roberto Di Matteo 6-0, Didier Drogba in his first spell at Chelsea got a hat trick, the eventual champions that season Manchester United did not begin their own season until Monday August 16,2010 in a night time kick off in Old Trafford where they trashed Newcastle United 3-0.

In the following season it was the turn of Manchester city, Manchester United began their campaign away to West Bromwich Albion, a match they won 2-1 while Manchester city began their own league season at home to Swansea, a Monday night match that is remembered for Sergio Aguero’s electric debut and goals.

AGUERO'S WINNER AGAINST QPR
|
it was a match that got Manchester’s city trophy winning campaign on the absolute best start that culminated in that mouth watering finale against QPR that will be remembered for many years to come as utterly the greatest four minutes in premier league history.
The 2012/2013 season saw another champion crowned, Manchester United won their 20th English league title, Robin Van persie finally had a league trophy after leaving the Arsenal famine and it was the also the season that marked the end (he is still alive) of the greatest British manager of modern time, Sir ‘Emperor’ Alexander Fergurson. His team began their last EPL winning campaign by losing 1-0 at Everton to a Marouane Fellaini -esque header; does he ever score any other type of goal? This match was played on…..you guessed right Monday 20th August 2013.
VAN PERSIE BEFORE AND AFTER

In the 2013/2014 season, the Monday omens continued, Man city had sacked the eccentric Roberto Mancini and replaced him with the affable and dull Manuel Pellegrini, the chosen one, DAVID WILLIAM MOYES was now the new henchman at Manchester United while the special one, sorry, the happy one Jose Mourinho got tired of coaching Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos to coax the extraordinary talents of Demba Ba and Jon Obi Mikel as the new Chelsea boss. The bookies favorite for the title was…. You guessed wrong.
OBI MIKEL AND DEMBA BA 1
It was Chelsea that started the season as favorites but the punters failed to understand the Monday night opening weekend voodoo, and it struck yet again. Manchester city began the season with a Monday night annihilation of a hapless Newcastle side and ended the season as champions, Chelsea, the favorites for the title finished 3rd at the end of the season while Man united ended the season without the chosen one as its manager in 7th place.
Last season, Chelsea began the campaign as favorites again and they began their campaign on Monday 18th August 2014, at the end of the season, they were champions. The gods of the opening weekend Monday night had smiled on them and they won the league with style and yes with muscle and huge London buses.
This season, Manchester city have started their season with a Monday night opening weekend victory at West Bromwich Albion, the omens are indeed good for city. MANCHESTER CITY FOR THE TITLE?
