Sorry fans for not putting up Plays of the Week of recent,
we will make it up to you surely but here’s this week’s episode. And it was definitely
a smashing week of football.
FLOP OF THE WEEK: AS Roma (Serie A).
The team from Rome had a torrid week losing handsomely 6-1
to Barcelona in their Champions’ League group-stage match then lose 2-0 at the
Olimpico to Atalanta. A maicon red card and Wojciech Szczesny’s silly behaviour
is putting Roma in the papers for the wrong reasons. Rudi Garcia needs to get
his house in order.
GOAL OF THE WEEK: Aleksandar Kolarov (Manchester City).
The full-back is known for smashing goals and this one was
no different. Nice clean passing play saw City in the Southampton box were
Kevin De Bruyne had the ball then dinked a brilliant crossover the Southampton
defenders for Kolarov to trap and smash the ball to the corner of the net. The
goal made it 3-1 and saw City win the game.
SAVE OF THE WEEK: Hugo Lloris (Tottenham).
A good end to end game but looked like a keeper battle
between Hugo Lloris and Asmir Begovic and Lloris showed his class as usual.
Chelsea were on the counter as Willian grabbed the ball from his half and hit a
diagonal which beat all the Tottenham defenders and met Eden Hazard, Hazard met
the ball with a volley which was going to Lloris right hand side of the net but
the Tottenham goalie made a quick reflex save diving low to keep it at 0-0. The
match finished stalemate.
MATCH OF THE WEEK: Bournemouth V Everton (English Premier
League).
This was a classic Premier League fixture that saw 6 goals,
and a dramatic comeback, let’s just get into it.
Everton were in total control of the game and it paid off as
they raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Funes-Mori and Lukaku. Everton won
the first half. Second- half and Everton were still in control and looking to
kill them off but their chances were farfetched. Bournemouth then got their break as full-back
Smith smashed in a class goal from range. The cherries continued attacking and
scored a well-deserved equaliser as they passed into the box and Junior
Stanislas buried the ball into the net. With stoppage time left Everton rallied
the troops and taught they had won the game as Ross Barkley bundled the ball in
to make it 3-2. Bournemouth were not done, they went on to get their own
equaliser as Stanislas slammed a header to get a price point for his team.
MANAGER OF THE WEEK: Massimiliano Allegri (Juventus).
The under pressure coach has fixed his team up and they have
won four games in a row in the Serie A and still have a chance to get to the
next round in the Champions League after they beat Manchester City 1-0 in their
group-stage win.
TEAM OF THE WEEK: Napoli (Serie A)
The dark horses beat table toppers Inter-Milan 2-1 in their
Serie A fixture to occupy top spot in the League.
COMBINED TEAM OF THE WEEK:
GK: Hugo Lloris (Tottenham).
The French captain showed greatness as he made key saves to
keep Spurs in the game in their 0-0 draw against London rivals Chelsea.
RB: Cristian Zaccardo (Capri).
The Veteran defender scored the winner as Capri defeated
Genoa 2-1 to lift them out of the relegation zone.
CB: Dejan Lovren (Liverpool).
Since Mamadou Sakho got sent to the side-lines by injuries,
Dejan has stepped up and looked a glance of himself when he was at Southampton.
He might just get himself back into the first team if Liverpool keeps winning.
LB: Patrick Van Aanholt (Sunderland).
The full-back scored and helped Sunderland keep a clean
sheet as Sunderland beat Stoke City 2-0 in their Barclays Premier League
fixture.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City).
The 58 million pounds man was on sung for the Citizens in
their 3-1 win over Southampton. He scored one and assisted two as City went
back to top the league.
CM: James Milner (Liverpool).
The stand-in captain has been a work horse for Liverpool
since he joined and this week he scored two penalties, one in the Europa League
against Bordeaux and the order was the winner in their premier league win over
Swansea.
RW: Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (Dortmund).
The Gabon forward was class over the weekend after he scored
a brace in Dortmund’s 4-1 win over Stuttgart in their Bundesliga fixture. Nominated for the BBC African Footballer of
the year and he looks the favourite as he has racked up 17 goals in 14 games
this term
LW: Jamie Vardy (Leicester City).
The England International scored and broke the consecutive
goal per game record which was held by former Manchester United striker Rudd
Vanistelrooy in Leicester’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United. Vardy has now
scored in 11 consecutive premier league games for the foxes, plus he is top
scorer in the league with 14 goals.
AM: Neymar (Barcelona).
The Brazilian wizard scored a brace that saw Barcelona beat
Real Sociedad 4-0 at the Camp Nou. He has been rewarded for his fine form as he
has been named as one of the top three to win the Ballon D’OR just after
team-mate Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
ST: Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli).
The Argentine forward scored a brace that saw Napoli beat
Inter 2-1 and make his team top of the table in the Serie A. He is top scorer in the Italian League with 12 goals.
ST: Aritz Aduriz (Athletic Bilbao).
The 34 year old veteran scored a hat-trick as his team sank
Rayo Vallecano 3-0 in their La Liga fixture.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Aritz Aduriz (Athletic Bilbao).
The veteran has been top notch for Athletic this season. He
has scored 16 goals across all competitions and this weekend alone he scored
the fastest goal in La Liga this season. Because of his form links to Barcelona
in the January transfer window might be on the cards, plus with form like this
they might just be an outside chance of him making the Euro 2016 squad for
Spain.
