FOP's Player Focus: Dele Alli

We looked out for some of the top performers  for their sides so far and this time, I will be writing about Tottenham player Dele Alli. Bamidele Jermaine  Alli is a Nigerian who was born and raised in Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire. Started his career with Milton Keynes Dons before moving to Spurs in February 2015 for a fee of £5 million. The 19-year-old has been effective for Spurs so far this term. This season, Alli has featured in 18 league games, he has five goals and 3 assists, 77% pass rate, with an average of 1.9 Shots per game  through this process. Alli is a good tackler, although he gets booked too often (6 yellow cards); 2.3 tackles per game and 2.4 interceptions per game is a very impressive stat.

Alli's confidence when with the ball has been astonishing. He is a good passer of short passes, likes to dribble and he gets fouled often. He prefers to play the short passes than the long balls as per not to lose possession of the ball too often. Although he gets fouled, he commits foul often too. Alli's contribution to the defence has been great. His tackles and interceptions are very strong, too. Alli is a good finisher which has seen him score 5 times so far this season. He has this resemblance with Eriksen in final passes, too. Alli is energetic and has featured in about 1326 minutes this season - for a player at 19 having featured in such minutes of football (18 appearances with one suspension from 20 games) for a top football club like Spurs, tells you a lot about his ability.  Alli is tall, skillful , has good balance, good speed to run past defenders, too, His favorite foot is the right foot, though he uses the left foot effectively at times.  Dele Alli's season by numbers in the Premier League: 18 games 23 chances created 5 goals 3 assists 77% pass accuracy.

For his international career, he has featured in the U17, U18, U19 for England; he performed very well at the youth levels. In February 2015, John Fashanu tried to convince the youngster to play for Nigeria, but on 1st October 2015, he was included in England's list ahead of their upcoming games (Estonia and Lithuania) in UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying rounds. It was a blow for the Super Eagles in losing the 19-year-old to England. If Alli had been present or convinced to play for the Super Eagles, he would have been one of the future of the National side. The current Eagles side lack creativity and their attacking flair has been nothing to write home about. With Alli's style of play contributing defensively and also a good attacker and with a good finishing rate, undoubtedly, he would become one of Africa's great - a big loss for the national side. For England, he made his debut on the 9th of October 2015 against Estonia which he came on for Ross Barkley which England won 2-0. On the 17th of November, England played France in a friendly match at Wembley Stadium, Alli made his first start for England in this match and he scored a sensational goal, with England winning 2-0. With the grace so far, Alli could be another icon for the English side. We know how inconsistent English players have been in recent years especially after having a fine season at U-17 and U-19 levels, but I don't see that happening to Alli if he continues to work hard. Alli has made 113 career appearances with 25 goals and he is just 19 years old. Talent!

Watch out for Alli, he will stun the world soon. We also need to give credits to Mauricio Pochettino, too. He has brought up good players for Spurs since he moved from Southampton. He found the talent of Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Tom Carroll , Dele Alli, etc. Definitely, a great season for Tottenham.
