PLAYS OF THE WEEK

Again we say to you footy fans out there Happy New Year and 2016 has started with a bang with things looking normal again as Chelsea and Manchester United both won their games, and the likes of  Leicester and Crystal Palace were hit by the rocks (No Disrespect). Also we saw the normal challengers for the golden boot score goals in Wayne Rooney and Diego Costa. Strange things still happened as both LA LIGA giants drew which saw the Real Madrid Manager get the boot, too much talk lets get into PLAYS OF THE WEEK.........

FLOP OF THE WEEK: Victor Wanyama (Southampton).

The holding midfielder lost his head in Southampton's away match versus Norwich City. He was on a yellow card when he rushed into a Norwich player with a reckless tackle which saw him catch the player not the ball and he was sent for an early shower. A minute after he was sent off Alex Tettey went on to score the winning goal for Norwich which saw them grab all three points. Wanyama was criticized by his manager Ronald Koeman for his behavior on the pitch but the midfielder cleared the clouds as he went on his social platform to apologize for his actions. Good gesture perhaps.

GOAL OF THE WEEK: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).

We've been waiting for this to happen as he took him over 500 minutes to score a premier league goal. It was a record breaking goal as he took him to the 2nd highest goal scorer in the Premier League over taking Manchester United cult hero Andrew Cole and also made him 2nd highest goal scorer in Manchester United history, anyway lets get into the goal. Eight minutes after the Swansea had equalized, Anthony Martial got the ball on the flanks and darted through two Swansea defenders with his pace, then hit a driven cross into the box were Rooney met the ball with his back heel and flicked it into the net. What a way to win a match after United had not won a game in six.

SAVE OF THE WEEK: Keylor Navas (Real Madrid).

Wonderful save this was it's just that it was not enough to save Rafa Benitez's job as he was axed after the game. In the final minutes of the game with Madrid down to ten men, a corner-kick was cleared by the Valencia defense and they looked to counter immediately as Paco Alcacer hit a delightful diagonal ball which met substitute Alvaro Negredo. Keylor Navas had read the situation and quickly rushed out to limit the space and time Negredo had, and that worked as Navas was able to bundle Negredo's first time shot and his defenders did the rest.

MATCH OF THE WEEK: Valencia V Real Madrid (LA LIGA).

At this stage every match is vital. Gary Neville needed a first win as boss of Valencia, Real Madrid wanting to reduce the gap at the top of the table and so on.

First-half saw Madrid control the game for the first 35 minutes and they got rewarded for their brilliance as Bale and Ronaldo combined for Benzema's goal in the 16th minute, 1-0 to Real Madrid. They were more chances for the "LOS BLANCOS" but the Valencia defence dealt with all that came in front of them. Real took their foot of the pedal and Valencia took their chance as Andre Gomes was fouled in the box and captain Dani Parejo made it 1-1 from the spot, Half-time.

Second-half and both teams started to get at each other proper football end to end stuff with both goalies getting loads of action. Main talking point was Kovacic getting sent off after he tried to stop a Valencia attack. Madrid were still on top of things even though they were down to ten and they took the lead as Gareth Bale headed in Toni Kroos's free kick. It did not take long for Valencia to get back into the game as their next attack lead to their equalizer as Paco Alcacer headed in a fine move. They were late chances for both sides but it was to no avail. 2-2 Full-time.

MANAGER OF THE WEEK: Constantin Galca (Espanyol).

The Espanyol gaffer got his team to contain the Barcelona front three and helped his team to gain a priceless point against. They never feared their cross town rivals matching them man to man and dealing with anything that came their way. Both teams play this mid-week so we should expect another blockbuster.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Chelsea (Barclays Premier League).

The Blues for the first time in months played like the Champions they're and totally ran Crystal Palace ragged and made them look like a mid-table team. If Chelsea can continue this way top four could not be far away.

COMBINED TEAM OF THE WEEK: 4-5-1

GK: Petr Cech (Arsenal).

The Arsenal goalie has the highest clean sheets in the premier league thus far and he won the game for Arsenal with key saves against Newcastle as his team found a way to get one past Newcastle and this makes Arsenal top of the table.

RB: César Azpilicueta (Chelsea).

The full-back was solid on the night as Chelsea got rid of Crystal Palace thrashing them 3-0 in the process. Azpilicueta kept Zaha at bay and made him look like minced meat. "DAVE" will be key in Chelsea's top four push.

CB: Alvaro (Espanyol).

Solid on the day as he kept Suarez, Neymar and Messi at bay. Alvaro made scoring hard work for the Barcelona front 3 and was always a nuisance to Barcelona's attacks.

CB:  Enzo Roco (Espanyol).

Alvaro's partner in crime. He kept Barcelona at bay as they kept a clean sheet against their crosstown rivals.

LB: Ben Davies (Tottenham).

Rarely gets game time but he had a hell of a game in Tottenham's draw. Davies was bombing up and down the flanks causing problems for Everton. With this performance am sure Pochettino will be scratching his head about selection.

CM: Yaya Toure (Manchester City).

He might look like he has lost his legs and power but he is always the go to man for the Citizens. Toure scored the equalizer for City as they beat Watford 2-1 in their chase to win the Premier League.

CM: Mikel Obi (Chelsea).

Guus Hiddink has said he is the ideal player to hold the midfield and he totally ran the middle in Chelsea's win against Crystal Palace. He was the man of the match on the day as well.

LW: Anthony Martial (Manchester United).

He scored and assisted a goal as United went on to get their first win in six games by beating Swansea 2-1 in their Premier League fixture.

RW: Willian (Chelsea).

Chelsea's player of the season thus far, He scored a beauty and made up another goal in Chelsea's 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

AM: Andre Gomes (Valencia).

He was the best player on the pitch on the day, most of Valencia attacks went through him, he just did everything on the day, fouled when he needed too, created chances and off course he won the penalty that his team scored in the first-half.

CF: Islam Slimani (Sporting Lisbon).

The big striker scored a brace in his team's 2-0 win over title rivals FC Porto which sees them top table in the Portuguese Liga.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Petr Cech (Arsenal).

John Terry said Cech will get Arsenal 11 to 15 points well from our calculations he has got his team close to 20 points this season. He is a great leader and Arsenal look composed in defence since he joined the club, even when the defence look like shambles Cech always does his part. If Arsenal win the league big props has to go to this man.
