PLAYS OF THE WEEK

Club Football returned this past weekend after a busy International break for our favoured footballers. Big players turned up this weekend and Plays of the week will show a brief review. Enjoy

FLOP OF THE WEEK: Inter Milan V Juventus (Serie A).

After the hype and vigour of this particular game which is also called the Italian Derby, the match did not leave up to expectation. Chances were limited  between both sides and gave us no vibe at all. The match finished 0-0 and am sure fans would have preferred to watch a soap opera for the wasted 90 minutes.

GOAL OF THE WEEK: Raheem Sterling (Manchester City).

Manchester City thrashed Bournemouth 5-1 in their Premier League fixture over the weekend and Raheem was the stay of the show. Kevin De Bruyne got the ball in the City half then sent a pass that sliced the Bournemouth defense open for Sterling to receive, He (Sterling) drove into the box, beat 2 defenders leaving them on their backs then passed the ball into the net.

SAVE OF THE WEEK: David De Gea (Manchester United).

Manchester United had a feel good day as they routed Everton 3-0 in their Premier League fixture over the weekend, the team were collectively good but David De Gea showed his skills once more in goal. Ross Barkely was controlling the tempo in midfield and threaded a quality pass through the Manchester United defensive line which found Aaron Lennon, Lennon then dragged a pass back that found Lukaku who powered a placed shot but De Gea quickly stretched out his leg to make a decent save.

MATCH OF THE WEEK: Sporting Gijon V Granada (LA LIGA).

It's rare that we see a Monday night game win our Match of the week but this la liga encounter had it all. As early as the 8th minute we got our first goal in the game as Bernado made it 1-0 Gijon, their lead did not last long as Piti equalised for Granada in the 21st minute to make it 1-1. Nigerian youngster Isaac Success scored the second for Granada in the 41st as they won the first-half.
Second-half was a bit drab but in the 74th minute we taught the game was over when Youssef El Arabi made it 3-1 to Granada. With 8 minutes left in the game drama starred as Miguel Lopes got his second yellow card in the game and was sent-off. Momentum was Gijon as Nacho Cases scored to make it 3-2. Drama did not stop there as Matheus Doria got sent-off after collecting 2 yellow cards in the 89th and 90th minute respectively, and just to wrap things up Guerrero made it 3-3 and Gijon salvaged a point. Good game.

MANAGER OF THE WEEK: Claudio Ranieri (Leicester City).

The Italian manager showed his tinkering as he tweaked his team at half time bringing on two wingers who totally changed the game after Leicester were out run in the first-half, losing 2-0 at  the time. Riyad Mahrez and Nathan Dyer (Substitutes), both set-up Jamie Vardy who scored a brace for the foxes. Leicester have won 7 points from losing positions in the premier league this season. Relentless.

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Darmstadt (Bundesliga).

The newly promoted team beat Augsburg away in a composed 2-0 win. Darmstadt have been decent in the Bundesliga so far as they lay 9th on the 18-team table.

COMBINED TEAM OF THE WEEK: We are going take a cue from fantasy league and play ALL-OUT-ATTACK where we can only play to centre-backs.

GK: Simon Mignolet (Liverpool).

The Liverpool goalie impressed on the day making key saves to help Jurgen Klopp beat the jinx of Liverpool managers losing their first game in the charge as red side of merseyside drew with Tottenham 0-0.

CB: Chris Smalling (Manchester United).

The Manchester United center-halve had a solid game for the red devils as he helped thrash Everton over the weekend. He kept Lukaku quiet and grabbed a rare assist.

CB: Jeidson Murrilo (Inter Milan).

Both defenses were on point on the day but Murrilo was a stand out for Inter and made Morata look ordinary.

CM: Giorgino Wijnaldum (Newcastle).

He has been an instant hit and looks like a bargain at 14.5 million. Yes Newcastle have been in shambles but he has been their shining light in their dark times. Wijnaldum took the match ball home by scoring a double brace which saw Newcastle beat Norwich 6-2 at St James's Park.

CM: Sergi Roberto (Barcelona).

With all the injuries Barcelona are suffering the young guns have been showing a bit of promise and Sergi Roberto is one of them. His passing is always spot on and he doesn't get a foot wrong. He helped Barca defeat Rayo Vallecano 5-2 in their weekend LA LIGA fixture.

CM: Miralem Pjanic (AS Roma).

Scored a goal and grabbed a routine assist as AS Roma took all 3 points in their 3-1 win over Empoli.

LW: Neymar Jr (Barcelona).

Since talisman Lio Messi is injured, the mantle has been passed onto Neymar to deliver the goods for Barcelona, and he is doing no wrong at the moment. Neymar scored a double brace and assisted a goal as Barca beat Rayo Vallecano 5-2.

RW: Raheem Sterling (Manchester City).

The English wonderkid showed his clinicality in scoring his first ever hat-trick which saw Manchester City thrash Bournemouth 5-1 to cement their top of the table status for another week.

AM: Dirk Kuyt (Feyenoord).

The Dutch veteran scored a first-half hat-trick as he helped Feyenoord thrash SC Heerenveen 5-2 in their Eredivisie fixture over the weekend. No wonder he's being linked to Barcelona.

ST: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (PSG).

Fine wine is what they call him because he is still pulling up the goods at his age. "the god" scored a brace as  PSG beat SC Bastia 2-0 in their ligue1 encounter.

ST: Max Kruse (Wolfsburg).

The German International joined the hat-trick trend as helped Wolfsburg beat Hoffenheim 4-2 in their Bundesliga encounter.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Giorgino Wijnaldum (Newcastle).

The Dutch Player of the year has shown his qualities since he joined the Premier League and am sure he is already a cult hero due to his double brace against Norwich. A player who can play anywhere in the midfield and always working on the pitch, right now he can do no wrong. No disrespect to Newcastle but they're surely a stepping stone because with his qualities the big clubs will come knocking anytime.
